Bethany Hamilton's Biography: Bethany Hamilton was born on February 8,1990 on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. Bethany's parents first her on a surfboard when she was about four-years-old. Bethany was able to stand all by herself on a surfboard when she was seven-years-old. Bethany then started surfing competitively at the age of eight. Bethany was successful in her competitions and decided this is what she wanted to do.
Then on October 31,2003 Bethany thought this may change. As Bethany was laying on her board waiting for a wave at about 8:00 in the morning she felt a tog on her left arm. This is when she realized what had just happend. Bethany was attacked by a 14-foot Tiger Shark. Bethany was so calm it was amazing how calm she was. Bethany was surfing with Alana Blanchard, Byron Blanchard, and Holt Blanchard. Bethany clamly shouted,"I've been attacked by a shark!" Holt quickly paddled toward her and told her to hold on to his shorts so he could paddle her in. It took about a half hour. Byron paddled ahead to call 911. When all of the Blanchard's and Bethany arrived at the beach, Alana puked. Then from there it took paramedics forty-five minutes to arrive. Bethany was lucky enough to have a paramedic on vacation right up the beach. He tied a towel around her arm to act as a tornquit. When the paramedics arrived Holt called Bethany's mom and told her what had happend. She started to break down and cry. Bethany's Mother told her brother what had happend so she could get to the hospital and her brother had began to call everyone he knew to begina chain of prayers.
On the way to the hospital a paramedic whispered in Bethany's ear,"God will always be on your side".
Bethany when she woke up asked when she could get back in the water. Three weeks later Bethany was back in the water with all her friends. The next year Bethany began to create a jewelry and perfume line and wrote the book"Soul Surfer". From that point on Bethany knew she was going to stop surfing for a while. Bethany was successful in over all most of her competions.
Alana Blanchard Biography: Alana Blanchard was born in March of 1990. Alana was born into her home in Kauai, Hawaii. Her father taught her to surf when she was about four and learned Hanalei Pier.Alana was there when Bethany was attaked at Tunnel's Beach. Alana is a good friend to Bethany and goes to church with her. She is a very well accomplished surfer.
